What we love about the Pure Amazon
Carries only 22 guests, so the guiding and service can stay very personal.
Ten Double Suites and two Single Cabins make the ship unusually good for solo travellers as well as couples.
The route focuses on Pacaya-Samiria, one of the most wildlife-rich protected areas in Peru.
The Map Room, Leica binoculars and twice-daily skiff outings help turn sightings into understanding.

Pure Amazon is the polished new A&K Sanctuary riverboat for travellers who want serious Pacaya-Samiria access with a high comfort ceiling. Launched in 2025, she carries only 22 guests in 12 cabins: ten 25 m² Double Suites on Deck Two and two 16 m² Single Cabins at the stern of Deck One. The design is contemporary, with Peruvian textiles, natural wood and stone, large windows, private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and complimentary minibars.
The ship has more downtime infrastructure than most Amazon boats: sundeck, spa pool, veranda lounge and bar, restaurant, spa treatment room, gym, Map Room, spotting scopes and Leica binoculars for every guest. But the best parts still happen off the ship. Voyages of three, four or seven nights explore Pacaya-Samiria by skiff, on foot when conditions allow, by kayak, through community visits, birding, fishing, stargazing and guide talks. The boat boards at Nauta after a flight to Iquitos and a roughly 1 hour 45 minute road transfer. June to November is usually lower water, better for walks and birding; December to May floods the forest and opens different skiff routes. Choose Pure Amazon if you want a very comfortable, small Amazon expedition. It is not the right fit if you want the lowest-impact or most rustic option, or if formal dress codes make you itch.

Food is a real strength on Pure Amazon. The riverboat guide describes Peruvian, Amazonian and international cooking, with locally sourced ingredients, buffet or à la carte breakfasts, relaxed lunches, afternoon tea, and tasting-menu or à la carte dinners. Most drinks are included, apart from selected premium champagne. The best meals should feel tied to the river, not separate from it.
Pure Amazon’s sustainability case rests on small scale, local guiding and A&K Philanthropy work in Peru. The source material highlights responsibly sourced materials, community visits with ribereños, Formabiap’s Indigenous-led teacher training near Iquitos and the Nueva Arica Kukama Kukamiria community. We would not call this a bare-bones eco boat; it is a high-comfort, low-volume way to enter a fragile reserve with community context.
