What we love about the Manatee Explorer
14 river-facing suites, all with private balconies.
A shallow 0.75 m draft helps the vessel work the Napo River from Coca.
Four Deluxe Suites add whirlpool bathtubs; Standard Suites keep the same balcony-facing river feel.
Operations are listed as Smart Voyager and Rainforest Alliance certified.

Manatee Explorer is the Ecuadorian Amazon ship we would choose when you want real forest access with more cabin comfort than most riverboats can offer. She carries up to 28 guests in 14 river-facing suites: 10 Standard Suites of about 20 square meters and 4 Deluxe Suites of about 24 square meters. Every suite has air conditioning, floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony, hot-water bathroom and 24-hour electricity; Deluxe Suites add a whirlpool tub. Public spaces are practical and generous for a small Napo River vessel: indoor dining room, bar-lounge, reading room, al fresco lounge, boutique and an observation deck with hot tub.
The point is not to stay on board. Days move by motorized canoe, kayak and on foot into Yasuni, Panacocha, clay licks, Kichwa and Secoya community visits and night walks, depending on itinerary and water conditions. Trips usually start in Quito, fly early to Coca, then continue by canoe to the vessel. Arrive in Quito the night before. Ecuador's Amazon works year-round; wetter months bring fuller channels and flooded forest, while drier periods can make walks and banks easier. Choose Manatee Explorer if you want comfort without losing the expedition edge. Skip it if you want formal service, elevators, several restaurants or a ship-first holiday.

The food on board Manatee Explorer is one of the pleasures of the route: fresh juices, Ecuadorian dishes, Amazon ingredients, fish when available, and international staples for balance. Meals are served in the first-deck dining room or al fresco lounge, and some itineraries include a cooking class with the chef.
Manatee Explorer's strongest sustainability story is practical: small-group travel, local guides, community visits, and certified operations. AdventureSmith lists the vessel as certified by Smart Voyager and Rainforest Alliance. The operator also runs an Amazonian Sustainability Circle, supporting conservation and community-linked projects in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
