What we love about the Scottish Highlander
Only eight guests, which creates a very personal onboard atmosphere.
A country-house feel rather than a contemporary cruise aesthetic.
The observation area and forward deck make scenic cruising a real highlight.
Bicycles are available, and guests can walk or cycle when the barge is stationary.

What we particularly appreciate about Scottish Highlander is the balance it strikes between intimacy and space. At 36 m( 117 feet long), she offers a genuinely comfortable setting for just eight guests, with three twin/double staterooms and one larger junior suite, all centrally heated and en suite. The atmosphere feels more like a well-run country house than a cruise ship, with tartan accents, wood panelling and a relaxed, sociable saloon.
This is a journey best suited to travellers who want Scotland at a gentler pace: dramatic scenery, lochs, canal locks, castle visits and time to simply watch the Highlands pass by. Compared with larger river vessels, the experience is quieter and more personal, with a small, attentive crew and a very strong sense of place.

Dining is one of the pleasures of the voyage. Meals are freshly prepared by the chef, with traditional Scottish and international cuisine featured on the menu. Breakfast may be a full Scottish cooked breakfast or a continental buffet, while lunch is typically a relaxed bistro-style meal with salads or soups, local specialities and wine. Dietary needs can usually be accommodated if advised in advance.
Scottish Highlander’s low guest capacity is one of the most meaningful forms of responsible travel: fewer guests, smaller-scale excursions and a more measured pace through sensitive landscapes. The itinerary is designed around scenic cruising, walking, cycling and cultural visits rather than high-impact tourism, creating a travel style that feels both authentic and considerate.
