What we love about the La Perla
Carries only 30 guests, so the Amazon days feel personal rather than anonymous.
Six cabin categories give real choice, including solo, balcony and triple-friendly options.
Two 14-guest skiffs keep wildlife outings small enough for proper guiding.
The hammock and lounge areas are useful recovery spaces after humid forest excursions.

La Perla brings the Peruvian Amazon close without making the ship feel like the main event. She carries up to 30 guests in 14 river-facing cabins, with a 14-person crew, a cruise director, a paramedic and two bilingual naturalist guides. The boat is not glossy. That is part of the appeal. Cabins are air-conditioned, with private bathrooms, hot showers, desks, wardrobes and exterior views; the range runs from a 9 m² single cabin to 20 m² Superior cabins, plus balcony and triple-friendly options.
Days are built around the river system near Iquitos and Nauta: skiff outings, night searches around Nauta Caño, piranha fishing, forest walks, local-community encounters, market texture, birdlife, monkeys, sloths and the changing mood of the Marañón and Ucayali. On board, you have an indoor lounge and bar, dining room, outdoor lounge, observation deck and hammock area. High water from roughly December to May brings deeper skiff access into flooded forest; low water from June to November can make walks and beaches more likely. Choose La Perla if you want an affordable, small-group Amazon expedition with proper guiding and enough comfort to sleep well. It is not the right ship if you want a polished resort atmosphere, multiple restaurants, a pool or formal evening service.

Food on La Perla is regional and practical in the best sense: welcome lunch, full-board meals, fresh juices, water, infusions and Amazon ingredients after days outside in heat and humidity. The operator notes vegetarian alternatives and asks for dietary needs in advance. Expect good Peruvian-Amazon cooking, not a large buffet-ship dining scene.
La Perla benefits from Jungle Experiences’ local model: most onboard staff come from Iquitos and nearby communities, crafts and regional produce are sourced locally, and the vessels use wastewater treatment, biodegradable cleaning products, recycling and reusable bottles. The operator also supports CREA’s manatee rescue work, Amazon Forever education projects and Taricaya turtle releases with SERNANP.
